George Heimbuch passed away April 28, 2016 at the age of 95.

George Heimbuch of Clovis, CA appears on episode #86 of Hometown Heroes, debuting August 22, 2009. Serving with the 5th Air Base Group, George was in the Philippines before the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. He was captured by the Japanese on Mother’s Day, 1942, and remained a prisoner of war for more than three years. Separated from his brother, Ray, he would enjoy a unique reunion with him after they were both liberated. Listen to Hometown Heroes to hear George tell that story, as well as many others about how he managed to survive. You’ll also hear which famous sportscaster he once babysat in Montana.
