The six-week battle for Sicily involved nearly 500,000 troops from the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.

Jerry Countess, a native of Brooklyn, NY, participated in the Sicily landings with the 1st Infantry Division. You’ll hear this recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart detail what he considered his closest call of World War II, an incident that unfolded on a Sicilian mountainside.
