    Mr Kershaw…
I thoroughly enjoyed your broadcast this evening on Hometown Heroes with Paul. I try to listen every wk. h I grew up in a small town in VA and went to nursing school in Lynchburg, not far from Bedford and spent time in Bedford so will check out your book on said Bedford Boys. My dad was in 91st infantry in N Africa and Italy I know of. He was awarded the Silver Star from combat in Italy but never talked about his war days. Dad was only about 5’10” and was a Bar rifle man. I think he was drafted at age 18 and went to boot camp in OR, then to Europe. He died in 1971 of lung cancer and would never tell his story about wartime service. I tried to find his military records but were apparently burned in a fire at a repository in the Midwest yrs ago.
I actually participated in the 70th anniversary of DDay playing in the US Memorial band and played a concert on Omaha Beach. I think the video is still online….exceptionally memorable and emotional. Still have sand from the beach in the shoes I wore that day. We also played a concert in Paris and London on that tour.
Thank you for your research and writing about WW II. My Dad’s name is John Everette Pyle Jr if ever you run across that would appreciate you sharing with me.
