Episode #692 of Hometown Heroes, airing July 31 – August 5, 2021, continues our conversation with 99-year-old Jim Parker of North Las Vegas, NV, and centers around December 19, 1943. The target that day was Innsbruck, Austria, but the B-17 he was flying with the 301st Bomb Group’s 32nd Bomb Squadron was severely damaged by enemy fire. Parker found a way to bring the bomber safely back to his base in Italy, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions that day.

“Dina-Mite” was the name of the B-17 Jim was flying on December 19, 1943. For more photos, visit the Hometown Heroes facebook page.
