Episode #670 of Hometown Heroes, airing February 26-29, 2021, concludes Black History Month with the memories of three of the roughly one million African-Americans who served in U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. We also learn about the inaugural Brigadier General Charles E. McGee Unity Award, presented by the Friends of the National World War II Memorial to broadcaster and veterans advocate Robin Roberts. Watch the complete award presentation video below.

Roberts, whose father was a decorated Tuskegee Airman during World War II, recently produced the History Channel documentary Tuskegee Airmen: Legacy of Courage. You’ll hear her gratitude for the award and her call for unity, and you’ll also hear General Mark Milley’s comments from the above video congratulating Roberts in this edition of Hometown Heroes.
