91-year-old John Sussex of LaGrange, WY appears on episode #507 of Hometown Heroes, airing January 19-21, 2018. A native of Goodland, KS, Sussex is one of the few remaining survivors from the SS Peter Silvester, the last American ship sunk by a German U-boat in the Indian Ocean during World War II.

    This was an interesting story and I know that it is true because my dad Glenwood Skaggs was on one of those life rafts. Dad is 96 years old and he accounts the attack and his time at sea on the life raft. I think dad was 21 years of age at the time.
