102-year-old George Vandersluis of Fresno, CA appears on episode #552 of Hometown Heroes, airing November 29 – December 2, 2018. A native of Minneapolis, MN, Vandersluis served in the Marine Corps, 1940-46.

On December 7, 1941, George was raising the flag aboard the cruiser USS Honolulu (CL-48) when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.
