97-year-old Durl Gibbs of Fort Benton, MT appears on episode #776 of Hometown Heroes, airing March 11-16, 2023. Rounding up cows on horseback from the age of 5, Gibbs is a lifelong cowboy, having grown up in Idaho and Utah before World War II, and becoming a Montana cattle rancher after the war.

Gibbs survived the Battle of Okinawa with I Company, 381st Regiment, 96th Infantry Division, and you’ll hear him take us back to three of his closest calls in combat.

    Durl thank you for sharing. My mother is Barbara Barnard Robbins, George and Modenia Barnard are my grandparents. I have heard that amazing wallet story from my dad, Leo who is 92.
