Episode #787 of Hometown Heroes, airing May 27 – June 1, 2023, shares plans for a new memorial to honor veterans and features the memories of some of the World War II veterans whose names will be inscribed on it. The Veterans Home of California, Fresno hopes to unveil the memorial in time for its 10th anniversary in October, 2023.

The alternating series of two-sided memorial walls and benches for reflection will line a walkway near the entrance to the facility. The names of more than 400 veterans who have passed away while residents of the home will be inscribed, with additional names updated over time. The Central California Veterans Home Support Foundation is in charge of raising money for the completion of the project, and one way to help is through the “Remember a Vet” program. A $100 donation covers the cost of inscribing a veterans name, and donors will receive info about the veteran’s name they sponsored. To participate, call Julie Cusator at (559)493-4239.
